The Lishe na Mama Uji Programme, launched by Governor Susan Kihika in July 2025, has quickly become a lifeline for thousands of children, ensuring that no learner begins their day on an empty stomach.
The programme was designed to fight child malnutrition, boost enrolment and attendance in ECDE centres, and ease the burden on parents—all while empowering local women through jobs as cooks. In just a few months, its impact has been felt across the county.

Gilgil Highway Comprehensive School (Kambi Somali): Dr. Mwaura and CECM for Health Roselyn Mungai highlighted the need for rehabilitating kitchens and expanding water storage to sustain the growing demand.
Sanmarco Schools (Mosop Ward): Enrolment surged from 24 to 45 pupils after the introduction of porridge. CECM for Water and Environment Dr. Nelson Maara pledged a clean water connection to complement the feeding programme.

Kirenget Town: ECDE enrolment skyrocketed from 30 to over 100 learners, directly linked to improved nutrition and consistent attendance.
Racetrack Primary School (Nakuru East): More than 300 ECDE learners now benefit daily, with county leaders noting sharper concentration and reduced parental burden.

The programme’s ripple effects extend into homes and communities. By employing local women as cooks, Lishe na Mama Uji strengthens household incomes and empowers families. Parents, relieved of the daily worry of providing school meals, can now focus on other needs, confident their children are nourished and thriving.
