The Gusii Council of Elders, Nakuru County Chapter, has called for deliberate engagement among elders from different communities to strengthen unity and promote lasting peace across the county.
Led by their Chairman, Elkana Getanda, the elders emphasised the need to convene structured inter-community forums aimed at fostering dialogue, collaboration, and mutual understanding.
The call comes at a time when concerns have emerged over rising tribal rhetoric.
According to the county government of Nakuru, the elders noted that Nakuru’s diversity is one of its greatest strengths and urged community leaders to take proactive steps in safeguarding harmony at the grassroots level. They underscored the critical role elders play in conflict prevention, mediation, and shaping community attitudes.

“The county government remains committed to protecting this reputation by promoting unity and equal opportunity for all residents, regardless of background,” the County added.
Ambrose further called on civil society organisations to support structured peace-building and conflict resolution training for elders, saying such initiatives would strengthen grassroots mechanisms for dialogue and dispute resolution.
Chief Officer for Public Participation, Mr Edward Gitau, echoed the importance of sustained public engagement in nurturing cohesion.
He noted that continuous dialogue between communities and government structures is essential in preventing tensions and reinforcing trust among residents.
