Kenya will tomorrow join the rest of the world in marking World Radio Day 2026, with a series of high-profile events organized by the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) under the theme “Radio and Artificial Intelligence.”

The celebrations, scheduled for Friday, February 13, 2026, will bring together government officials, media leaders, academics, and civil society representatives to explore how artificial intelligence can transform radio broadcasting while safeguarding ethics, professionalism, and public trust.

The day’s program will feature a keynote paper by Prof. Nancy Booker titled “Innovation that Empowers, Ethics that Inspire, Trust that Endures.”
A panel discussion will follow, moderated by Ms. Christine Nguku, Assistant Director of Training & Curriculum Development at MCK. Panelists include:

Safeguarding Radio
Ahead of the celebrations, MCK CEO David Omwoyo emphasized that while AI offers radio new possibilities to innovate and expand reach, its adoption must be anchored in ethics.
“When guided responsibly, AI strengthens professionalism, reinforces public trust, and ensures radio remains a credible pillar of our democracy,” he said.
Complementing the official program, Omwoyo will also appear on NTV and Nation FM under the banner “Fixing the Nation: One Conversation at a Time” to discuss the theme “Safeguarding Radio.”

The broadcast begins at 7:00 AM and will be streamed live across digital platforms.
