• As the standoff intensifies, the ODM faction aligned to Sifuna has announced plans to proceed to Kitengela on Sunday, February 15, 2026, signaling further escalation of the dispute.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders accuse former President Uhuru Kenyatta of fueling internal wrangles to block President William Ruto’s second term.

At rallies in Lamu and Tana River Counties on Thursday, February 12, 2026, they claim Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and his allies are working hand in hand with the Jubilee Party to sabotage ODM’s pre‑election talks with UDA.

Suna East MP Junet Mohamed declared: “The problem we have in ODM is not a broad-based issue; the problem we have is former President Uhuru Kenyatta.”

ODM Chairperson Gladys Wanga echoed the sentiment, insisting: “We are where Baba left us. The former President wants us to join Gachagua’s team.”

Leaders allege that Sifuna’s axis reports directly to Jubilee’s leadership, receiving instructions to block ODM‑UDA talks by all possible means. They affirm National Executive Committee (NEC’s) decision to send Sifuna packing as final, awaiting ratification by the National Delegates Convention (NDC).

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has reinforced the move: “As ODM in Kakamega County, we support NEC’s decision to remove Sifuna and replace him with Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo. As a party, we need discipline.”

On February 12, 2026, Sifuna dismissed his removal as illegal and unprocedural, sparking sharp reactions. In a press briefing, he branded the NEC’s decision a blatant violation of the ODM Constitution and principles of natural justice.

He argued he had not been informed of any allegations nor invited to defend himself. “This action is illegal, unprocedural, and a blatant violation of the ODM Constitution,” he said, insisting he remains the lawful Secretary General.

Sifuna has linked his ouster to his firm stand against aligning ODM with President Ruto’s administration, stressing the party must remain true to its founding ideals.

The faction aligned to Sifuna announced plans to rally in Kitengela on February 15, 2026.
