Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has
announced that electricity access in the county has now reached 70 percent, a milestone achieved through partnership with the National Government.
On February 27, 2026, Kihika joined Energy Cabinet Secretary (CS) Opiyo Wandayi at Tegat/Saptet Village in Elburgon, Molo, to launch new electrification projects. Molo Member of Parliament (MP) Kimani Kuria also attended the event, which marked a significant step in expanding power to rural households.
Kihika commended the National Government for allocating Sh3.2 billion to electrify 33,000 households in Nakuru. That day, the government rolled out projects worth Sh104 million, targeting 855 households in Molo.
“Electricity access is transforming our communities, powering homes, schools, and businesses. This partnership ensures Nakuru continues to grow and prosper,” Kihika said.
Development Beyond Power
While electrification took center stage, Kihika also highlighted ongoing projects in Elburgon Ward. These include laying cabro paving blocks in Elburgon Town, constructing a stage on Kenya Railways land, and completing the maternity wing at Elburgon Hospital.
She noted that road grading and gravelling under the Imarisha Barabara Program will begin next, alongside water piping projects in collaboration with the area MP and Member of County Assembly (MCA).
Kihika further encouraged groups and cooperatives to apply for low‑interest loans under the Sh100 million Wezesha Fund and announced plans to launch a Sh30 million Boda Boda Fund to support operators.
Education and Community Empowerment
The day also featured handover of a three‑classroom block at St Joseph’s Comprehensive School, built by the Kenya Pipeline Company Foundation, and commissioning of three additional classrooms at St James Comprehensive School by the area MP.
Deputy Governor David Kones, KPC Managing Director Joe Sang, Education CEC Zipporah Wambui, Chief Officers Ben Sang and Ken Mungai, and area MCA Njuguna Mwaura joined the event, underscoring the county’s collective push for progress.
