- The Mbeere North parliamentary race is among the most hotly contested in the ongoing by-elections, widely seen as a test of strength for both government and opposition.
Drama has marked the November 27, 2025 by-election in Mbeere North after Democratic Party (DP) Leader Justin Muturi alleged that Chinga Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Kiruga Thuku violated electoral law.
Through a post on his official X account, Muturi has claimed Thuku appeared at Siakago Polling Station dressed in full UDA party colours and accused him of attempting to bribe voters.
“We have just left Siakago Polling Station, where voters are turning out with courage and clarity. I am here to ensure they are protected, respected, and allowed to exercise their democratic right without interference, intimidation or unlawful conduct,” Muturi said.
He added: “Election Day is not a campaign stage, and polling stations are not theatres for party branding. He was removed from the station as required. The law stands. The law must be obeyed.”
Muturi has further alleged that hired goons had been deployed around the polling station, but insisted that intimidation would not deter voters. “The vote belongs to the people of Mbeere North, not outsiders, not party agents, and not those who think power places them above the law. No uniform, no colour, no noise will overturn the will of the voter,” he said.

On the contrary, Mathira Member of Parliament (MP) Eric Wamumbi has accused Muturi of attempting to instill fear among voters, saying: “Justin Muturi is the one who came to sell fear to the people, and I will follow him the whole day wherever he goes, because he intends to sell fear to the voters of Mbeere North.”
United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Leonard Wamuthende has dismissed the opposition’s claims, expressing confidence in victory. “Wamuthende is here to stay. I am confident we have already won, and that is why the opposition is trying to cause chaos. My work here is simply to cast my ballot and then leave, “he said.
