The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has cautioned voters against taking pictures of ballot papers at polling stations, stating that the secrecy and integrity of the vote must be preserved at all times. Any breach of this directive is punishable by law.
“No one is allowed to take pictures of ballot papers at polling stations,” says the IEBC.
IEBC has further clarified that only authorized persons are allowed at polling stations. These include voters, polling clerks, presiding officers, security personnel, accredited observers, media representatives, political party or independent candidate agents, and IEBC staff.

According to the IEBC, all eligible voters, as captured in the 2022 certified Register of Voters, are being identified using the Kenya Integrated Election Management System (KIEMS) kits. “The Register of Voters has been displayed at each polling station for public verification,” says the IEBC.

Polling stations opened at 6:00 a.m. and will close at 5:00 p.m. IEBC has assured that any lost time during polling will be recovered, and voters in the queue by closing time will be allowed to cast their ballots.
A total of 22 by-elections are being conducted nationwide, covering parliamentary and ward seats. Six constituencies awaiting new Members of Parliament are Banissa, Kasipul, Magarini, Ugunja, Malava, and Mbeere North.
The by-elections also include one county Senate seat in Baringo, left vacant following the death of Senator William Cheptumo in February 2025.
Additionally, multiple MCA ward seats are being contested across counties. These include Angata Nanyokie (Samburu), Chemundu/Kapng’etuny (Nandi), Chewani (Tana River), Fafi (Garissa), Kariobangi North (Nairobi), Kisa East (Kakamega), Metkei (Elgeyo Marakwet), Mumbuni North (Machakos), Narok Town (Narok), and Purk (Turkana).
