- “The county is calm, and people are going about their daily activities as usual,” he said
The Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Interior and National Administration Kipchumba Murkomen has commended the multi-agency security team deployed in Mandera County, saying it has done a commendable job to contain cross-border threats that have, for a long time, undermined the safety and security of the people.
“The county is calm, and people are going about their daily activities as usual,” he said.
CS Murkomen added that there's, however, no room for complacency.
He says that the security agencies continue to patrol and monitor the border and hold regular meetings with the communities living along the border to promote peace.
According to him, the government has also commenced the process of issuing firearms to chiefs and assistant chiefs whose lives are under threat.

“We will also equip, incentivize and recruit more NPRs to sustain the gains made in securing the county,” he said.
Mandera’s challenges are not limited to external threats. Inter-clan conflicts over grazing and watering rights flare up occasionally, threatening the fragile peace.
CS Murkomen notes that National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs), working closely with local leaders, have managed to contain these tensions before they escalate.
Following his meeting with officers on the ground, Murkomen has announced that mobility for security personnel will be prioritized once the government’s motor vehicle leasing arrangement is concluded.
He has also emphasized the need to improve the welfare of officers and expedite the modernization programme to equip them with the latest technology.
Murkomen is in Mandera county for the Jukwaa la Usalama county tour.
Mandera County has faced persistent insecurity over the years, shaped by a complex mix of cross-border threats, inter-clan tensions, and historical marginalization.
