Youths have seized the spotlight since Tuesday, June 18, 2024, with a collective physical and online mobilization in various counties across the country. They have attributed their clarion cry to the proposed Finance Bill 2024, terming it an oppression by the regime of the day.

Gen Zs seem to have come of age as they have expressed an understanding of the bill's impact on them, should it be passed. They have demonstrated their discontent through hashtags like #RejectFinanceBill2024, #RevolutionKE, and #OccupyParliament.

Several leaders have acknowledged the fearless voices of the youth, terming their activism as an effective way to draw the Government’s attention. These leaders have shared their admiral on social media, promising to stretch a supportive hand.

Opposition leader, Raila Odinga alias “Baba”, expressed his commendation with the statement, “I’m a very proud father today, hongera sana (congratulations) to and all those who bravely stood up for their rights!”

Wiper Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, did not fall short of appreciation words for the protesters saying; “We also express our sincere gratitude and admiration for Gen Z for their incredibly effective and nonviolent demonstration against Kenya Kwanza regime’s Finance Bill, 2024, yesterday in Nairobi and today in Mombasa.”

National Rainbow Coalition (NARC) Party leader, Martha Karua also applauded the youths’ determination in demonstrating the power of citizens in the country.

Narok County Senator Hon. Ledama Olekina showed his respect for the youth by acknowledging the effect of the protests on Kenya’s future.

“Mad respect for Generation Z. It’s called intergenerational fairness. Gen Zs are saying don’t borrow on our behalf. We don’t want to overburden our own children!” he posted on X.

Hon Barongo Nolfason, Member of Parliament, Bomachoge Borabu Constituency additionally conveyed his honor for Gen Zs on the floor of National Assembly by propelling a roundly ovation in respect for the marchers.

“Took to the floor of the National Assembly today to honor The GEN Z; the heroines and heroes of yesterday’s peaceful demonstrations against the burdensome Finance Bill 2024,” he posted on X.
