Rongai Constituency Parliamentary contender Andrew Kibet Komen is rallying residents to participate in the upcoming United Democratic Alliance (UDA) grassroots elections on March 28, 2026.
He urges voters to turn out in large numbers and elect leaders aligned with the president and governor, framing the exercise as a chance to usher in new leadership and strengthen the party’s presence at the local level.
Rongai is one of the eleven electoral constituencies in Nakuru County, Kenya. Established for the 1988 general elections, it spans approximately 1,049 square kilometers, making it one of the largest constituencies in the county. The constituency is divided into five County Assembly wards: Mosop, Soin, Menengai West, Solai, and Visoi.
Komen recalls the January 10, 2026 elections, where Rongai faced serious logistical challenges. Voting gadgets arrived late in the afternoon, around 3:00 to 4:00 p.m., leaving many residents unable to cast their ballots. By early afternoon, frustrated voters abandoned polling stations after long waits. “The process did not run smoothly in some areas,” he admits.

He expresses gratitude that UDA headquarters officers met them at the governor’s office, listened to grievances, and promised corrective action.
“We expect all the gadgets to be delivered, and starting tomorrow distribution will begin to areas near the polling stations. The good thing about this round is that it will be electronic,” Komen said.
Voting will take place at the 2022 IEBC polling stations. Komen emphasizes inclusivity: “If there are still people in line at closing time, voting will continue until the last person has cast their ballot.”
For him, the grassroots elections are about building strength from the bottom up.
“When we hold the election, we will strengthen the party’s presence right from the grassroots at the polling stations. Once that is accomplished, we will move upward to the ward level and then continue toward the constituency,” he explained.
Komen calls for peaceful elections, urging candidates to mobilize responsibly and attend with their supporters. He stresses calm and order, while expressing confidence in UDA’s continuity in national leadership from 2027 to 2032. He notes that party headquarters has assured them that all arrangements are in place, with officials already on the ground.
Komen has positioned himself as a key alternative to traditional political dynasties.
His political journey began in 2017 when he contested on a Jubilee Party ticket against incumbent Raymond Moi, earning national attention.
Today, he aligns closely with President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, while building grassroots support through philanthropy — sponsoring students, supporting vulnerable families, and donating equipment to people with physical challenges.
Meanwhile, Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has affirmed UDA’s readiness for the grassroots elections scheduled for Saturday, March 28, 2026. In a March 24 Facebook post, she expressed confidence after hosting Members of the County Assembly (MCAs for a strategic meeting.
“I encourage all registered voters across the county to turn out in large numbers and vote for their grassroots leaders,” she said.
Kihika further revealed that she held a consultative session with grassroots leaders, engaging directly with the County Returning Officer and the party’s technical team. Concerns were raised and addressed, and preparations confirmed complete.
“With all issues addressed and preparations confirmed, we are now fully ready for the grassroots elections this Saturday,” she noted.
