The Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang'ula, has honored Huawei for its significant contributions to youth empowerment through technology and education.

His remarks came during a visit from a delegation of Kenyan university students on June 9, 2025 who recently excelled at the prestigious Huawei ICT Competition in China.

“Such initiatives are vital in nurturing talent, promoting knowledge exchange, and equipping our young people with the practical skills necessary to thrive in a digital economy,” Wetang'ula emphasized.

The Huawei ICT Competition's Global Final, held in Shenzhen, China, in May 2025, showcased the talents of over 210,000 students and instructors from more than 2,000 colleges and universities across over 100 countries.

The Kenyan students, who visited the Speaker to celebrate their outstanding achievements, represented the nation in four key categories: network, computing, cloud, and AI innovation.

Among them, the computing track team emerged as global champions, taking home the first prize, while an all-girls team made headlines by securing second place in the cloud track category.

Wetang'ula expressed deep pride in their accomplishments, stating, “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to these bright young minds for their exemplary performance and for flying the Kenyan flag high on the international stage.”

Encouraging the students to maintain their focus and resilience, he noted, “Success is a constantly moving target — one that demands ongoing dedication, innovation, and personal growth.”

Accompanying the students were notable figures from Huawei, including Deputy CEO Mr. Steven Zhang, Director of Talent Ecosystem Mr. Michael Kamau, Director of Media and Government Relations Ms. Khadija Ahmed, and Director of Public Affairs Mr. Yuta Leng.
