Kenya has highlighted its role in transforming healthcare at the 78th World Health Assembly currently going on in Geneva, Switzerland. Two key events highlighted Kenya’s impressive progress a forum on integrating community health workers and a high-level roundtable on reimagining healthcare financing.
In the forum “Transforming Healthcare: Integrating Professional CHWs into Healthcare Systems in One Term,” hosted by the Community Health Impact Coalition (CHIC), Mary Muthoni, Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, shared Kenya’s progress.

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale also participated in a third high-level event hosted by the Global Fund, themed “Accelerating Universal Health Coverage: Mobilizing Resources for Health Equity and Sustainability in Africa.”
He has emphasized Kenya’s commitment through the creation of the Social Health Authority (SHA) and Social Health Insurance (SHI), replacing the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). “This new model is inclusive and equitable. It covers all Kenyans, regardless of age, location, or income,” said Duale. “We are dismantling barriers to healthcare access."

He has also called on African nations to embrace innovative financing and praised the Global Fund as a catalytic partner. Hosted by Executive Director Peter Sands, the event featured key figures like Dr. Jean Kaseya of Africa CDC, Dr. Ruth Lawson, and Dr. Joy Phumaphi, reflecting a united push for health equity and sustainability across the continent.
The 78th World Health Assembly opened on Monday, May 19, 2025 and will continue until May 27, 2025.
