Accompanied by Principal Secretaries (PSs) Mary Muthoni (Public Health), Oluga Ouma (Medical Services), and Health Director General Patrick Amoth, Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Aden Duale has paid a maiden to the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC). This visit constitutes part of the CS’s familiarization tour of the Ministry’s agencies.

CS Duale has highlighted the need for compliance and competency in licensing, saying, “I issued a firm warning against the licensing of unqualified and non-compliant medical facilities, making it clear that any malpractice by compliance officers will attract legal consequences.”

Touching on Section 33(2) of the 2023 Social Health Insurance Act, CS Duale urged the Council to uphold integrity and transparency. This, he has attributed to the assurance that Kenyans access safe, quality healthcare under his stewardship.

The CS has additionally highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to unlocking Universal Healthcare Coverage (UHC) through significant collaborations with county governments and other stakeholders.

“I emphasized the Ministry's full support through legislative reforms, resource mobilization and coordination with counties and professional bodies to unlock Universal Health Coverage (UHC),” Duale noted.

The former legislator has further briefed the Council on the Digital Health Agency's role in exposing quacks and protecting the public from substandard care. This aligns with Duale’s review of the Health Information Management Procedures Regulations before the National Assembly Committee on Delegated Legislation on April 22, 2025.

Addressing the Committee, the CS highlighted the alignment of the updated regulations with previous recommendations made during the prepublication stage, ensuring they effectively support the rollout of UHC.

It is here that CS Duale informed the Committee of the operationalization of the USSD code *147# to facilitate the transition of Kenyans from NHIF to the Social Health Authority (SHA) platform.
