• Amazon web services is set to invest in the education sector by partnering with TVETS and Universities through the government Ajira Digital platform to offer a 12-week Amazon Web Services cloud skilled program, career and resume coaching as well as interview opportunities with employers both locally and internationally making Kenya a hub of the silicon savannah.

A report by K24 TV Wednesday , October 3, 2023 revealed that Amazon Web Services launched a development centre in Nairobi, Kenya, with President William Ruto presiding over the event.

“Amazon Web Service has launched a development center in Kenya, a move expected to open up opportunities for Kenyans skilled in software development, cloud support, and software engineering, strategically placing Kenya as the hub of the silicon savannah.”

This comes as the second African Web Services (AWS) Development Center by Amazon after the first one was set in South Africa.

 The move, President William Ruto says serves as a stamp of confidence in Kenya at a time when there is global instability.

The centre is to host research and development teams aimed to deliver solutions to clients, partners around the world.

A 2023 report by telecom advisory services projects that contribution of cloud computing as a digital technology will contribute to the GDP 12.9 billion to 1.4 trillion in the next ten years.
