• The Finance Bill was approved on June 14, 2023 and the 2023 Budget was read by the CS Treasury Njuguna Ndung’u on June 15, 2023 in Parliament.
Through a tweet, Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris has defended her membership in Orange Democratic Movement. This is after she voted yes for the Finance Bill, which was against Azimio’s stand on the Bill.

She says that although she is a loyal Party Member, people must be taxed to enable the government deliver its mandate.

“I’m still in Azimio, I have been in ODM since 2007 and I have supported Baba and he has also supported us as candidates. Any government cannot deliver services without money, the country has a huge debt at the moment. People must be taxed to enable the government deliver its mandate,” said the tweet.

The vote on the Finance Bill took place on June 14, 2023 with 176 MPs voting yes, Nairobi Women Representative included. Felix Odiwour alias Jalang’o, the Lang’ata Member of Parliament was also among the Azimio Party Members who voted in for the Finance Bill.

81 MPs voted against the Finance Bill.

UDA’s Gathoni Wamuchomba, MP Githunguri who voted against the Finance Bill will face punishment according to Senator Samson Cherargei.
