African leaders package coups in the name of elections but hate it when served with the real coups, 14 years in power is a blōödy coup-@obajemujnr

Political coups have been on the rise in most of the West African countries in the recent past causing economic crises and to an extent depriving citizens of peace that is highly sort out by many.

Countries like Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, Guinea and now Gabon have had political coups in recent months with their residents calling for the establishment of democracy in such countries.

The news had hit numerous headlines with the recent one being Gabon that had been ruled by one family for more than half a decade.

According to a X post by @AfricaFactsZone Gabon's former President Omar Bongo had ruled for 42 years (from 1967 to 2009) while acquiring numerous wealth stored in France;70 bank accounts, 39 apartments, 2 Ferraris, 6 Mercedes Benz cars, 3 Porsches and a Bugatti in France.

His son, Ali Bongo who has been President since 2009, is said to have taken over power from his incumbent president who is his father Omar Bongo.

The overthrow of Ali Bongo after being sworn in as president of Gabon after an election has aroused numerous mixed reactions from netizens who have expressed their concerns on the African political scene where presidents cling on to power until a military coup is forced to intervene before things become uncontrollable.

@WAJIRI87

There's a question we all need to ask ourselves, Why are these coups taking place mostly in French colonial Africa, France must be doing something bad in these nations to make the military leaders come in to restore order, let peace reign though.

@2muchboy

Ask me the definition of wickedness I’ll tell you, Africa. Africa who has bewitched you?

@MrBoadu

Quite unjustifiable, but these waves of army coups signal one thing, AFRICA is where it is because of BAD LEADERSHIP. Many youths have been denied a better future because of their bad governance.

@Famousaja

Coup is the only language most African leaders understand, how can one family rule for 55years?

@al_shekarau_

Wow! Omar Bongo, the former President of Gabon, had an astonishing amount of wealth and possessions in France. He ruled for an impressive 42 years before his son, Ali Bongo, took over in 2009. And now, there's been a coup and he's been overthrown! Exciting times in Gabon!

@KennyNuga

President Omar held power for too long.His son Ali Bongo also held power since 2009 without any elections. That’s not too nice to the Gabonese people.

@olajideobe

Gabon too! The Ecowas powers-that-be did not condemn the coup that happened in Gabon last weekend with that sham election, but they will be very quick to converge for an extraordinary summit to decide on the need to take military action against Gabonese armed forces that just ousted Bongo from power after his family has ruled Gabon for over half of a century.

The real coup in Gabon happened last weekend with that sham of an election conducted by Bongo. The one executed by the army overnight was just a counter-coup.

Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, Guinea and now Gabon! How many more nations will Ecowas launch an assault against? The world is watching.
