Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has announced exciting developments from the 5th German-African Business Summit, where he met with executives from the renowned German automaker, Volkswagen (VW) Group. During this meeting, VW executives revealed their plans to significantly expand operations in Kenya, signaling a promising boost for the automotive industry across Eastern Africa.
Mudavadi shared that Volkswagen is set to resume production in Kenya by the end of the year, marking a return to local assembly lines
“During our engaging discussion, VW executives confirmed their intention to resume production in Kenya by year-end. Even more thrilling, VW South Africa plans to introduce five additional models, responding to robust market demand. This expansion will be driven in partnership with Kenya Vehicle Manufacturers (KVM), a local carmaker backed by CFAO as a major shareholder,” said Mudavadi through a post on X.

The meeting also included key figures such as Principal Secretary for the State Department for Investment Promotion, @PSAhassan; Chief of Staff at the Prime Cabinet Office, Mr. Joseph N. Busiega; and Martina Biene, Chief Executive of Volkswagen South Africa, along with other VW executives.
Mudavadi expressed optimism about the collaborative efforts, stating, “We look forward to driving innovation and regional growth in the automotive sector.”
