As the government transitions from the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) to the Social Health Authority (SHA), citizens are urged to complete their registration before October 1, 2024.

This date marks the commencement of new health benefits under SHA, making timely registration crucial. To register, individuals can easily dial *147# on their mobile phones or visit the SHA website at https://sha.go.ke. For those who prefer in-person assistance, designated registration centres, including Huduma Centres, are available nationwide.

The Ministry of Health has emphasized the importance for all employers in Kenya to register their employees with SHA by October 1, 2024, to prevent any disruption in health coverage.

Contributions made by employers on or before October 9, 2024, will still be credited to NHIF, while those made from November 9, 2024, onwards will be directed to SHA. Employers can efficiently manage their employees' Social Health Insurance (SHI) contributions through the SHA Employer Portal, also accessible at https://sha.go.ke.

SHA aims to deliver comprehensive health coverage through three primary funds: the Primary Healthcare Fund (PHC), the Emergency, Chronic, & Critical Illness Fund (ECCIF), and the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).

Registered Kenyans will enjoy various benefits under the PHC, including access to services regardless of payment status, outpatient services such as consultations, lab tests, medication, counseling, and mental health support, as well as KEPI vaccines and maternal services.

The ECCIF provides coverage for critical health situations, including transportation to the nearest hospital and care for emergencies like heart attacks and severe trauma.

Meanwhile, the SHIF enhances outpatient services, covering lab diagnostics for conditions such as diabetes and heart disease, as well as comprehensive inpatient care management.
