• Victoria Mumbua Muloki, a 32-year-old taxi driver and mother of two from Mombasa, went missing on September 27, 2024.
  • Despite the arrest of a suspect and the discovery of her vehicle in Nakuru, her whereabouts remain unknown.
  • Family and colleagues are urging authorities to expedite the investigation.

Police in Migori and Mombasa counties have dismissed online claims that taxi driver Victoria Mumbua Muloki was found unconscious and injured. Speaking to journalists in Mombasa on October 1, 2024, Mumbua's family confirmed that her whereabouts remain unknown, adding to the growing concern surrounding her disappearance.

Victoria went missing on Friday, September 27, 2024, after accepting a ride request in Mombasa. Days later, on September 29, a suspect was arrested in Nakuru County in connection with her disappearance. Authorities have confirmed that her vehicle, a Nissan Serena with registration number KDQ 182F, was located at Mwariki Police Station, yet the search for Victoria continues.

The case has drawn attention as both the family and the taxi drivers’ community in Mombasa express mounting frustration over the lack of swift action in the investigation. Mumbua’s mother, who last spoke with her daughter on Thursday, September 26, described the anguish of losing contact.

"I spoke to my daughter last on Thursday, and when I tried to reach her on Friday, her phone was off. I haven’t heard from her since," she said tearfully.

Authorities in Nakuru revealed that the investigation is being spearheaded by their counterparts in Mombasa. However, the delay in interrogating the suspect has sparked criticism from the family and the public, who are growing impatient with the pace of the probe. Despite the suspect’s arrest, the investigation seems stalled, leaving many unanswered questions.

According to a joint statement from Victoria’s family and fellow taxi drivers, the suspect had evaded capture in Kisumu and Siaya counties before being apprehended in Nakuru while driving Victoria’s vehicle. The arrest, largely aided by fellow taxi drivers, brought some hope, yet Victoria’s disappearance remains unsolved.

The Mombasa taxi driver community is now demanding more decisive action. Several drivers have voiced concerns for their own safety, fearing that Victoria’s case is a reflection of broader risks within their profession. "We feel like our lives are in danger, and we are likely to protest until we know where she is. We’ve been driving these roads together for years, and this could happen to any one of us," a fellow driver lamented.

Victoria, a 32-year-old mother has been a taxi driver for the past four years. Her family describes her as a hardworking, loving individual who was always there for her family. Now, they are pleading with authorities and the public to do everything possible to locate her.
