“I started with drawing and painting, but I realized it was too common,” Devis explains. “I needed to create something unique.” This quest for originality led him to collaborate with his friend Dennis, sparking the idea of using colored strings in his art. His art explores themes of boldness, African culture, love, and loyalty, often reflected in the detailed depictions of lions, cultural symbols, and team logos.

Currently, his works range in size from 40×60 cm to 100×100 cm, each one a testament to his dedication and skill. However, the journey has not been without its challenges. Devis recalls the initial skepticism he faced from potential customers who dismissed his art as “just nails and strings.” This perception, coupled with concerns over pricing, made it difficult for him to gain traction.

Despite these hurdles, Devis remained steadfast in his belief in the value of his work. “I know my art is special,” he asserts. “The worth stands.” His persistence is beginning to pay off; as he has discovered the ability to create detailed portraits using strings and nails—a breakthrough that showcases his evolving mastery.
