The Principal Secretary of the State Department of Immigration and Citizen Services, Julius Kibet Bitok, is calling on Kenyans who applied for Maisha cards to promptly collect them from their respective application centers. This appeal comes in light of the staggering number of 476,167 uncollected National Identification Cards (IDs) currently held at National Registration Bureau (NRB) offices and Huduma Centres across the country.
As of August 26, 2024, the department reported that a significant backlog exists. "By the close of business on August 26, 2024, 476,167 printed National Identification Cards were lying uncollected in the NRB registration offices and Huduma Centres across the country," the department stated in an official announcement.
Nairobi leads the list with the highest number of uncollected IDs, totaling 55,327, followed by Kiambu with 37,708 and Nakuru with 28,581. Other counties with a higher number of uncollected ID cards are Kisumu (18529), Mombasa (17, 140), Kisii (15, 842), Muranga (13627), Uasin Gishu (13, 155), Kajiado (12, 533) and Bungoma (12, 053)
The department emphasizes the importance of collecting these cards, urging applicants to visit the stations where they submitted their applications as soon as possible.
