- In an interview on April 4, 2025, Justin Muturi critiqued President Ruto, labeling him unfit for the presidency of Kenya. Muturi labeled the President as "irredeemably corrupt," asserting that programs launched by Ruto is merely a façade for financial gain.
Government leaders are voicing their perspectives on former Attorney General Justin Muturi's assertion that President William Ruto is unfit for office. Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei describes the situation as unfortunate for Kenya, particularly coming from someone of Muturi’s stature.
Senator Sigei has expressed disappointment, stating that such comments were unexpected from Muturi. “He might believe he is making valid political statements, but he has diminished the tremendous respect associated with his former role as the President’s Attorney General. Such utterances do not befit the office he once held,” Sigei remarked.
Sigei emphasized the responsibility that comes with holding public office, which he says includes maintaining confidentiality and respect for the information acquired through official capacity.
“For him to declare that William Ruto is an incompetent President, after serving under him as Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, is surprising. He has enjoyed a privileged position for a long time and may not have anticipated his current standing. The President made it clear that Muturi essentially resigned himself,” he added.

Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has countered Muturi’s claims, noting his long-standing collaboration with Ruto since 2006 during his tenure as Minister for Agriculture.
“If there was ever a robust process in crafting a manifesto, the President was at the forefront. We are actively implementing our promises. For the former CS to assert that the President is unfit is simply unfair, especially since he makes these claims only after leaving government. I have witnessed a President dedicated to fixing the nation, making serious decisions around the economy that, while potentially unpopular, will benefit the country in the long run,” Mwaura stated.
He continued, “Some people thought that he would not even last three months running this economy. We have been able to pay debts. The deliberate effort to subsidize production rather than consumption has really worked in terms of lowering inflation.”
Mwaura asserts that there is no one better suited to balance politics, governance, and leadership at this time than President William Ruto
