• This agreement will bring immense benefits to Kenya. Once implemented, it is expected to more than triple Kenya's exports of meat products, fruits, vegetables, cut flowers, tea, and coffee

The signing of the historic Kenya-United Arab Emirates (UAE) Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) will deepen trade ties between the two nations through simplification of trade procedures, industrialization, and stimulation of investment.

According to President William Ruto, this agreement will bring immense benefits to Kenya. Once implemented, it is expected to triple Kenya's exports of meat products, fruits, vegetables, cut flowers, tea, and coffee.

These are some of the most important export categories for Kenya's agricultural and horticultural industries, and this agreement opens up new markets for Kenyan produce in the UAE, which has a strong network of trade and regional influence.

Besides that, the CEPA also presents serious opportunities for the UAE. First, it exposes the UAE to direct investment opportunities within key sectors of Kenya's energy, water, agriculture, health, airport, logistics, and ICT sectors.

These form the backbone in the development process and, therefore, are in high demand, with investment aiding not only the creation of fundamental infrastructure but in promoting the growth of production capabilities. It thus aligns with Kenya's current policy of reducing borrowing while increasing foreign direct investment and encouraging public-private partnerships.

The much-wanted deal was signed in Abu Dhabi, UAE's capital, on January 14, 2025, in the presence of his Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE. Signing of CEPA became a historical moment for the two countries that open up new horizons and mutual development.

The CEPA stands as a testament to the growing relationship between Kenya and the UAE, underpinning the shared vision of the two nations to expand trade, stimulate investment, and promote economic opportunities for their people. When this agreement is fully implemented, it will position both countries to reap very significant benefits with sustained growth.
