Blue is the colour; football is the game is a common slogan that Chelsea Football Club likes to use.

Chelsea was founded in 1905 because Gus Mears, the owner of Stamford Bridge, wanted to stage football matches there. He attempted to sell the ground to Fulham Football Club, but they declined, leading him to establish Chelsea Football Club instead.

Despite being founded in 1905, Chelsea rapidly rose and was promoted to First Division in 1907, just two years after their formation. Chelsea’s original kit was not the famous blue they wear today. They initially wore Eton blue shirts, the colour of the racing silks worn by the club’s president, Earl Cadogan.

The lion in Chelsea’s crest was inspired by the coat of arms of the Metropolitan Borough of Chelsea, reflecting the club’s pride in its local heritage. Chelsea was among the few clubs to attract large crowds and notable players during the interwar years.

Despite not winning significant trophies, they were popular and financially stable, which led to the construction of an extensive new stand at Stamford Bridge in 1939.

In the 1960s and 1970s, Chelsea became known as one of England’s most glamorous clubs. This period, often called the 'Kings of the Kings Road' era, saw the team associated with the London celebrity culture of the time.

Chelsea has a youth academy club, one of England's most productive clubs. This is because the youth’s club has helped produce several notable talents. A good example is Reece James, Chelsea’s current captain, and John Terry became the club’s legend and the longest-serving captain.

Chelsea Football Club transformed completely in 2003 after a Russian known as Roman Abramovich bought managers and players who helped the team perform extremely well. Under his ownership, Chelsea managed to win five league titles, 5 FA Cups, 3 League Cups, 2 Champion League, 2 Europa League, 1 Super Cup, and 1 Club World Cup.

Chelsea is currently owned by a consortium of investors led by Los Angeles Dodgers part-owner Todd Boehly. Private equity giant Clearlake Capital owns Chelsea FC. Behdad Eghbali and José E. Feliciano are the co-founders of Clearlake Capital.
