Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika and Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Hassan Ali Joho placed Nakuru’s natural resources and economic potential at the center of their March 11, 2026 meeting.

The two leaders discussed how the county’s lakes, minerals, and geothermal projects could anchor a new era of growth, positioning Nakuru as a hub for the Blue Economy and mining.

Governor Kihika emphasized that Nakuru’s lakes offer unmatched opportunities.

“Hon Joho will soon unveil a roadmap highlighting the county's mineral potential, including resources such as diatomite,” Kihika said through a post on X.

Kihika added that Nakuru County is also developing a framework to receive royalties from the exploitation of geothermal resources in Olkaria and Menengai.

The meeting drew Deputy Governor David Kones, Nakuru Town East Member of Parliament (MP) David Gikaria, County Secretary Samuel Mwaura, Chief of Staff Peter Ketyenya, and Deputy CS Newton Mwaura, underscoring strong county‑national collaboration.

Later that evening, the leaders joined Muslim women for an Iftar gathering at the ASK Show Grounds. Governor Kihika praised the Muslim community’s peaceful coexistence and highlighted its representation in education, health, environment, and county governance.

“We will recruit more doctors clinical officers and nurses in our hospitals to address Muslim specific needs. Also we will adjust the Wezesha Fund structure to ensure Muslim youth women and business people can start accessing loans to grow their income generating activities,” Kihika added.

CS Joho pledged support for fishermen around Lake Nakuru, promising licensing, training, rescue services, fish landing bays, markets, and cold storage facilities. He also committed to return for a fundraiser to support women’s groups and urged respect for elected women leaders.

Education CECM Zipporah Wambui, Chief Officers Gladys Kamuren, Joseph Kibusia, and Edward Gitau, alongside MCAs Benard Gatuso, Fadhili Msuri, and Ali Hassan Abdi, attended the day’s events.
