• Their triumph capped a spirited competition that drew players from across the country, supported by the County Government of Nakuru.

Peter Wachuri and Agnes Jerotich emerged victorious at the Kenya Darts Association Championship finals on March 8, 2026, held at Jacaranda Sports Bar & Grill in Nakuru. Wachuri claimed the men’s title, while Jerotich dominated the women’s singles, both showcasing consistency and precision throughout the national tournament.

Their triumph capped a spirited competition that drew players from across the country, supported by the County Government of Nakuru.

“Participants noted that the earlier donation of 10 dart boards and a cash contribution for prizes by Governor Susan Kihika and First Gentleman Sam Mburu has played a key role in supporting the sport and motivating players,” said the County Government through a statement on Facebook.

According to the County Government of Nakuru, the Chief Officer for Sports Francis Njoroge commended the players for their discipline and competitive spirit.

“He noted that the county remains committed to supporting sports and plans to organize more tournaments across different sporting categories to nurture talent,” he said.

Growing Interest in Kenya

The finals brought together officials, fans, and players, underscoring darts’ growing appeal in Kenya. Once a niche pastime in Nairobi pubs and clubs, darts is steadily evolving into a structured sport with county‑level backing and national championships.

A Sport with Global Roots

Darts traces its origins to 19th‑century England, where soldiers threw short arrows at tree trunks and casks for practice. By the early 20th century, it had become a popular pub game, later standardized with official boards and rules.

Today, the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) and World Darts Federation (WDF) govern international competitions, with televised tournaments attracting millions of viewers.

While darts is not yet mainstream in Kenya, its presence is growing. Local pubs and clubs have long hosted casual games alongside pool and board activities. The Nakuru championship signals a shift toward formal recognition, with county governments and associations investing in equipment, training, and competitive platforms.
