• Strict enforcement of exam integrity led to the cancellation of results for 1,180 candidates found guilty of irregularities. “Consequently, and in line with the applicable law and regulations, their examination results have been cancelled,” said the CS.

The Cabinet Secretary for Education Julius Ogamba has announced the release of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) 2025 examination results, ushering in a defining moment for nearly one million candidates across the country.

CS Ogamba has stated that the results are now available online through the KNEC portal https://results.knec.ac.ke/ .

Candidates can also access their results via SMS by sending their index number to 20076 at a cost of KSh 25. Students may collect their official result slips from their examination centers, while final certificates will now be issued through Sub‑county Education Offices rather than schools, a new policy designed to prevent institutions from withholding them over fee balances.

This year’s release coincides with the transition of the inaugural Grade 10 cohort to Senior School as Kenya phases out the 8‑4‑4 system.

According to the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC), marking was completed in mid‑December 2025, with a total of 993,226 candidates sitting for the exams. The gender balance was nearly perfect, with 501,204 girls and 492,019 boys.

Performance showed improvement compared to 2024: 1,932 candidates (0.19%) scored an A plain, up from 1,693 (0.18%) in 2024. A total of 270,715 candidates (27.18%) qualified for direct university entry with a grade of C+ and above, compared to 246,391 (25.53%) in 2024. The number of candidates with C‑ and above rose to 507,131 (50.92%), while those attaining a pass grade of D+ and above increased to 634,082 (63.67%).

Mathematics emerged as the best performing subject under the revised grading system. Seventeen subjects recorded improvement, while eleven declined. National schools produced the majority of A plain grades, with 1,526 candidates achieving the top mark. Sub‑county schools showed commendable progress, with 72,699 students qualifying for university entry, outperforming county schools in that grade bracket.

Strict enforcement of exam integrity led to the cancellation of results for 1,180 candidates found guilty of irregularities. “Consequently, and in line with the applicable law and regulations, their examination results have been cancelled,” said the CS.

The release of the KCSE 2025 results sets the stage for placement into universities, TVET institutions, and colleges.
