- The Dawoodi Bohra Community has long been recognised for its philanthropic contributions worldwide. The Nairobi visit by Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin is expected not only to strengthen spiritual bonds with the faithful but also to leave a lasting impact on Kenya’s health sector through the gift of specialised surgical care for the most vulnerable.
Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Aden Duale held a high-level consultative meeting on January 6, 2026, with representatives of the Dawoodi Bohra Community of Kenya ahead of the forthcoming visit by their Spiritual Leader, Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin. The visit, scheduled for January 8–18, 2026, is expected to blend spiritual fellowship with a significant humanitarian initiative in the health sector.
The Bohra Community delegation, led by Head Priest Koserali Najmuddin, briefed the Ministry of Health on preparations for the visit, which will include a medical outreach program spearheaded by a team of renowned laparoscopic surgeons from Mumbai, India. During the visit, the surgeons plan to conduct 50 free laparoscopic surgeries for patients who cannot afford specialised care. These procedures will be carried out at Kenyatta National Hospital and Kenyatta University Teaching, Research and Referral Hospital between January 13 and January 14, 2026.
Where possible, the visiting doctors will collaborate with Kenyan medical professionals, offering hands-on mentorship and sharing expertise to strengthen local capacity in advanced surgical techniques.
Additionally, the Dawoodi Bohra Community sought guidance from the Ministry of Health on the appropriate coordination framework to ensure full compliance with Kenya’s clinical, professional, and regulatory standards. The Community reaffirmed its commitment to adhere to all directives issued by the Ministry, underscoring its respect for national health protocols.
"The Ministry continues to leverage strategic partnerships to advance equitable access to quality healthcare for all Kenyans, in line with the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda," the Ministry of Health stated.
CS Duale was accompanied at the meeting by Dr Patrick Amoth, Director-General for Health, and Adan Harakhe, Secretary for Administration in Public Health and Professional Standards. Their presence underscored the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring the initiative is seamlessly integrated into Kenya’s healthcare framework.
