Accessing quality healthcare has been a major headache for many Kenyans since independence.

Most of the healthcare facilities have lacked the right equipment to handle different health issues that may arise, often forcing patients to seek treatment abroad.

Over the years, however, different regimes strove to bring affordable and quality healthcare closer to the mwananchi. Devolved governments have made it even easier, as most people can now access healthcare more easily than before.

The efforts made by the government are bearing fruit, and many Kenyans can now access quality and affordable healthcare with less struggle.

By providing the right equipment to healthcare facilities, healthcare providers can now handle the different health issues they face.

This was evident during the recent visit to Nakuru County Referral and Teaching Hospital by President William Ruto, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, and Governor Susan Kihika, on October 29, 2025 where they unveiled a state-of-the-art CT scan worth KSh130 million.

The move, aimed at boosting Nakuru County’s healthcare system, will provide faster and more accurate diagnostic results, improve efficiency, and consume less electricity.

This marks a major milestone in the county’s efforts to strengthen and provide quality, affordable healthcare to its residents. Nakuru County is now a step ahead in fulfilling the promises made to Kenyans about healthcare.

Instead of having the common mwananchi go through the stress of travelling outside the country for further treatment due to lack of the right equipment, purchasing and bringing it closer to them is always the best solution.

However, one machine is not enough. The government must strive to bring in as many as possible to handle the growing number of patients.

The cost of accessing such healthcare should also be reduced to enable patients from struggling backgrounds to access it easily.

The future of healthcare in Kenya is now much clearer. With support from both the national and county governments, Kenyans will get to enjoy better and quality healthcare services.

The CT scan will give doctors the most accurate results, help reduce deaths caused by misdiagnosis, and enable them to treat patients with the right medicine.

Not only will Nakuru residents enjoy this kind of healthcare, but Kenyans at large will benefit as the government continues working hard to equip facilities across the country with the right equipment.
