• Talk to the average Kenyan on the street, and ask them why they are not doing well financially, emotionally, socially or even spiritually. You will get an answer that sounds exactly like a copy paste of this man by the pool.

There is a very interesting Bible story about the seated beside the pool of Bethesda, waiting for the waters to be moved so that he can get his healing. For thirty eight years, this man watched other men step in before him.

Some of those healed had come earlier than him, others had found him waiting. When Jesus showed up, the man was still seated there, a very frustrated man. Thirty-eight years is a long time to be stuck in one place. Especially if that one place is a place of pain.

Jesus posed just one question to this man: -will you be made whole? Do you really want to get out of here? And just like many of us, the man had all sorts of excuses as to WHY he wasn’t well as yet. He claimed to have no one to push him into the pool at the right moment when the water was moved. He also seemed to blame those who somehow overtook him and got healed before him. Sounds familiar?

Talk to the average Kenyan on the street, and ask them why they are not doing well financially, emotionally, socially or even spiritually. You will get an answer that sounds exactly like a copy paste of this man by the pool. They blame their uncle, they blame the government, they blame their colleagues who seem to be making it, they blame their ex, they blame the devil, blame their ancestors or even blame God. In all their ranting, rarely will they mention their role, if any, in their current predicament.

Sometimes we just need to pause and ask ourselves whether we can’t create the right moment for ourselves. This man could have stayed inside the pool and waited for the moment.

Opportunities rarely come: -they are created by someone. And our colleagues who “overtake” us can be turned into allies and consultants to help us succeed like they did. Instead of bad mouthing others, why not learn from them? Why not rise above the circumstances surrounding us?

Fact: not all people bribe to get a job or a promotion. Fact: not every prospering lady is promiscuous or doing drugs. Fact: not all successful people are devil worshippers.

All these are cheap lies propagated by those who are too lazy to jump into the pool even when it is stirred. Do you want to be made well? Well, stop looking at others, look deep inside you.
