Safaricom has made a significant change to its “Reverse Call” service, which has been enjoyed limitlessly by over 130 million Safaricom subscribers since 2021.

The development now allows only two free reverse calls in a single day from the initiator, after which the initiators are to pay for the service from the third "Reverse Call".

Safaricom has clarified that the initiator will be charged a fee of 0.5 per 'Reverse Call' for subsequent reverse calls to access the service.

In 2019, the Safaricom telecommunication network introduced a new feature to its services. The feature is known as "Reverse Call".

Reverse Call is a service that allows customers to make calls without airtime, and the one receiving the call pays on behalf of the caller. All Safaricom subscribers qualify to use the service.

Safaricom launched the feature to complement the "Please Call Me" service that enables Safaricom users to send five free SMS to other subscribers to request a callback.

The call's initiator must put a preceding # on the number they intend to call to access the service.

When the receiving individual answers the call, an announcement follows, urging them to accept or decline the call by pressing 1 or 2, respectively. Once they take the call, the receiver will be charged for the call at standard rates.

The person receiving the call caters for the charges when they take up the call only and not when the announcement is made. There is no possible incurring of charges if the receiver does not accept the call or declines it.

The service only works if the receiver has sufficient airtime and the Bonga Points are accredited to them.

The service is not only limited to the receiver having airtime, but other resources such as All In One Minutes, Okoa Jahazi, and Bonga Points still can be utilized during a reverse call.
