August 8, 2024, marks the new dawn of the Government of Kenya in the process of propelling and achieving its manifesto as promised to the Kenyans in the August 9, 2022 elections. It should also be remembered that, where Kenya stands, it is almost two years since the new Government came into office, and the changes have come in after the constant uproar from the young generation termed Gen Z.

Despite the planned “Nane Nane” march to the statehouse, the exercise of swearing in the Cabinet Secretaries has ended successfully. Amidst this exercise foreseen as the turning point for the Government, confusion and dissatisfaction still abound.

Several Kenyans, especially the young generation, still feel their cry has not been considered, as raised during earlier protests.

Here are some of the comments in response to the swearing in of the new batch of the Cabinet Secretaries:

We want actions not dialogue.

@unkkownn2024

You are going against the constitution how can one have a case of integrity and still rehire them.

 @olmurani_Supat

Let them swear that they will fight corruption. Wish the energy of swearing is equal to fight the same.

Additionally, a section of the new cabinet includes Cabinet secretaries with whom Gen Z raised issues on accountability matters. At the new dawn, they have been reassigned offices in ministries that are different from those held earlier. The Gen Zs are yet to conceive whether they will serve Kenyans diligently by losing sight of their individual and personal interests.

The President has conclusively congratulated the new cabinet and urged them to serve with unwavering integrity. “Let me take this opportunity , first and foremost to congratulate Cabinet Secretaries whom I nominated and have been approved by the parliament and subsequently appointed and today they have taken their oath of office,” he said.

His call for servant leadership to the people of Kenya is a beacon of hope. He has also pledged to expedite the process of addressing all corruption complaints within six months, a promise that instils optimism.

“Many public officials have fallen short of constitutional standards for public officers as laid out in article 10 chapter 6 and chapter 12 of the constitution of Kenya which makes it clear, that, we as public servants and public officers are the servants of the people, and that the totality of our actions and conduct must reflect this fundamental principle, on the highest stand of integrity required of the public office,” he said.

Kenyans are therefore, looking forward with great anticipation and hope for a new Kenya, a government that truly embodies democracy- a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. This is the path Kenyans hope the new cabinet will walk.
