• The President has urged county governments, development partners, and the private sector to join efforts and provide support where possible.

President Ruto has issued a directive for all schools in the country to remain closed until further notice, extending the postponement of reopening dates for the second term. This decision comes after the Ministry had initially postponed the opening dates from April 30 to May 6, 2024.

“The Ministry of Education is directed to postpone the dates of reopening of all schools in the country for the second term until further notice,” said the President.

In addition to the school closures, President Ruto has called upon Members of Parliament to reallocate the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to prioritize the reconstruction of school infrastructure that has been damaged by the ongoing floods across the country.

"Members of parliament are requested to reorganize the CDF allocation to prioritize reconstruction of school infrastructure that has been damaged as a result of floods ravaging the country," Ruto added.

The President has urged county governments, development partners, and the private sector to join efforts and provide support where possible.

"I urge county government, development partners, and private sectors to join in this effort and provide support, where and when they can," Ruto added.

Furthermore, President Ruto has also drawn attention to the complications arising from settlements in riparian reserves in Nairobi. These settlements have hindered response efforts and increased the risks to human life, safety, and property.

To mitigate these risks, the Ministry of Interior has been directed to reinforce relocation notices that were previously issued and that are set to expire at 6:30 PM.

On May 2, 2024, the Ministry of Interior released a statement highlighting the imminent risk posed by overflowing dams and water reservoirs in multiple counties across the nation.

In response, immediate evacuation orders were issued for residents in areas affected by the overflowing water bodies. These individuals were instructed to vacate the areas within 24 hours, from 12:00 AM to 6:30 PM on May 3, 2024.
