• The planned establishment of the regional centre underscores a growing partnership between KEBS and the Nakuru County Government aimed at fostering a culture of quality, protecting consumers, and driving sustainable economic growth in the region.

The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) is set to establish a state‑of‑the‑art regional centre in Nakuru, a move designed to decentralize quality assurance services and strengthen the industrial capacity of the South Rift.

The announcement followed a courtesy call on February 17, 2026, when KEBS leadership met Nakuru County Deputy Governor David Kones to deepen collaboration between national standards bodies and county governments.

KEBS Managing Director Esther Ngari and National Standards Council (NSC)Chairperson Dr. Chris Wamalwa led the delegation, accompanied by NSC members, the KEBS South Rift Regional Manager, and other staff.

“The visit focused on strengthening partnerships in quality assurance, consumer protection, and supporting local manufacturers to comply with standards that enhance market access and competitiveness,” KEBS stated.

Earlier in the day, the delegation toured Wonder Feeds, a milling company certified with the KEBS standardization mark, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to helping manufacturers maintain high‑quality production standards.

County Commitment

Deputy Governor Kones confirmed that Nakuru County will provide land for the project, noting that the new centre will house advanced testing laboratories and calibration units. This will significantly reduce the need for manufacturers and traders to seek services in Nairobi.

County officials emphasized Nakuru’s role as a fast‑growing commercial and industrial hub. “Nakuru stands to benefit from expanded KEBS services, which will bring critical quality assurance services closer to entrepreneurs, lower the cost of doing business, and ensure that products from the county meet both local and international benchmarks," the County Government said.

County Chief Officer for Trade Bernard Sang also attended the meeting, underscoring the county’s commitment to industrial growth.

The planned centre highlights a growing partnership between KEBS and Nakuru County aimed at fostering a culture of quality, protecting consumers, and driving sustainable economic growth in the South Rift region.
