Nakuru County is receiving a lifeline. The Chemususu Water Supply Project is set to deliver over 6 million litres of water daily from the Chemususu Dam in Baringo County, transforming access to clean water in one of Kenya’s most water‑scarce regions.

The County is connecting over 5,000 households and social institutions in Rongai Sub‑County to safe, reliable water. For families who have endured long treks to fetch water, this project promises dignity, health, and opportunity.

According to the County Government of Nakuru, In Kiamunyi and around Kabarak University, a dedicated reservoir will serve both the institution and the surrounding community, ensuring that education and livelihoods thrive with dependable water supply.

Deputy Governor David Kones, speaking during the official commissioning alongside Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Eng. Eric Mugaa on February 5, 2026 highlighted the County’s investment in last‑mile connectivity.

Pipelines now extend from the 1,500 cubic metre Emkwen storage tank in Soin Ward to villages, schools, and health facilities.

“These extensions will serve over 2,000 residents in the immediate phase, significantly reducing walking distances and supporting local schools and healthcare facilities,” Kones said.

CS Mugaa underscored the urgency: “Water is the engine of our economy and the foundation of dignity for our people. Today, we are moving a lifeline from Chemususu to the doorsteps of Nakuru residents.”

Nakuru’s water revolution stretches further. Under Governor Susan Kihika’s leadership, the County has rolled out projects that bring taps closer to homes and institutions:

The Umoja, Thayu, Tendwet, and Moi Ndabi Projects have eased daily struggles for water in rural wards.

Furthermore, the Mai Mahiu Expansion at Gathima Primary School is extending supply to the outskirts of Mai Mahiu.

Also, there are extensions reaching 2,000 more in Kandutura. Roret Comprehensive School Tank in Kiptororo Ward, Kuresoi North, now provides a 50,000‑litre reservoir for students and surrounding communities.
