Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen holds consultative discussions with Turkana County's elected leaders to explore practical strategies to enhance security.

“We are fully committed to ensuring lasting peace in Turkana County and other regions with long-standing security challenges. As part of these efforts, we are exploring effective strategies to enhance security, foster cohesion and spur economic growth,” Murkomen stated.

Murkomen has reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting peace deliberations between communities, saying, “we will promote peace dialogues between communities and operationalize gazetted administrative units to bring services closer to the people.”

The CS has highlighted efforts to fast-track key infrastructure projects, including security roads, schools, and hospitals in the County, highlighting the augmentation of National Police Reservists (NPRs) and police officers. “We are also enhancing the capacity of NPRs and police officers by equipping them adequately and improving their welfare,” he opined.

The former lawmaker’s words mirror those of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who made-to-order the deployment of NPRs in March 2024 in the capacity of Interior CS. This was in efforts to complement the work of formed units along the Kitale-Lodwar Highway and several other areas within the County.

Over time, Turkana has reported occasional attacks in the areas surrounding the Turkana-West Pokot border and near Kenya's border with Uganda and South Sudan, to which the government is turning special focus in an effort to end crime.
