In a conclusion to a 12-day manhunt, detectives from Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have apprehended Hashim Dagane Muhumed, the prime suspect in a disturbing series of murders targeting three women in Nairobi's Eastleigh district.

“Muhumed is currently in police custody, undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment scheduled for tomorrow at the Makadara Chief Magistrates Court,” the DCI stated on November 3, 2024.

Dagane, a former regional police officer from a neighboring country, employed multiple identities and numerous phone numbers in a calculated attempt to evade authorities. However, his movements did not go unnoticed. Investigators monitored CCTV footage that captured him traversing Eastleigh, prompting an intensified pursuit by DCI detectives.

The breakthrough came in Kamukunji, where Dagane had been hiding. He was swiftly transferred to DCI headquarters for interrogation. During his arrest, authorities uncovered fake documents, including a counterfeit Kenyan ID. As the investigation unfolds, a dark backstory has emerged: Dagane previously served time for a murder involving a family member before relocating to Kenya and working as a driver at various schools in Eastleigh.

Detectives are now piecing together the details of this complex case, investigating whether Dagane acted alone or was supported by an organized network. Another suspect is currently assisting with inquiries, while forensic teams analyze a vehicle believed to have been used in the abductions. This vehicle was found abandoned at Wakulima Market.
