- This is mainly based on the fact that the Finance Bill will pose as burden to a struggling Mwananchi.
Minority leader of the National Assembly and Member of Parliament of Ugunja Opiyo Wandanyi is accusing the Kenya Kwanza Government for not understanding the struggles of Kenyans.
This is mainly based on the fact that the Finance Bill will pose as burden to a struggling Mwananchi.
“They have imposed an excise duty on human hair, wigs, false beards, eyebrows, eyelashes. These people have a born to pick with poor Kenyans. They do not want our women to be beautiful. They are stagnating every other poor Kenyans who is struggling,” said Wandayi.
Speaking during a debate in parliament on June 14, 2023, about the issue of Finance Bill, the majority leader feels that the Bill may render a struggling Kenyan jobless, thereby resorting to drugs and alcoholism, something that the government is trying to do away with.
“Hundreds of thousands of people depend on the Kinyozi’s and Salons. Imposing taxes on them means that they are going to go back and engage in nefarious activities.”
The Finance Bill 2023 proposes a tax on human hair, eyelashes, switches, and fake nails, which would hike the prices of these popular aesthetic goods.
Millions of people in the country who buy cosmetic products like wigs, artificial beards, and brows may have to pay more if a plan to impose a 5% excise charge on their worth is approved.
