On May 14, 2026 the Nakuru County Government organized a farmers training at AIC Church in Ruiru Village, Mai Mahiu Ward as reported from their Facebook account.
The training centred on Integrated Pest Management (IPM), teaching farmers to use pesticides responsibly and manage weeds effectively. Residents received insights on safe, sustainable, and affordable pest and disease control methods.
Farmers also learned proper weed management techniques, including targeted herbicide use to control broadleaf weeds and grasses while reducing misuse of agricultural chemicals.
During a field visit, the ward extension officer noted that some farmers were mixing various chemicals to control grasses but were not achieving effective results.

As a result, farmers received guidance on the correct use, handling, and mixing of agrochemicals and were encouraged to follow recommended practices for safe application and improved farm outcomes.
This initiative supports the county government’s commitment to increasing food production and promoting safer, more sustainable farming methods.
In addition, the County Government of Nakuru is working to improve nutrition and promote healthy food consumption through policy and planning.
On May 14, 2026, the county convened a County Multisectoral Platform Meeting to lead the development of the 2nd Generation County Nutrition Action Plan (CNAP) 2026–2030. The meeting brought together officers from various departments to develop a county nutrition fact sheet and profile, and to lay the groundwork for the new action plan.
These parallel initiatives demonstrate the county’s commitment to both increasing food production and ensuring residents have access to nutritious food.
