This Children’s Day, make your throwback not just a memory but a reminder of the joy, simplicity, and hope that are the characteristics of childhood and a motivation to make sure that every child, in every place, has the opportunity to create beautiful memories of their own.
As the world marks Children’s Day on November 20, 2025, many of us find ourselves reflecting not just on the children around us, but on the children we once were. It is a moment that invites a powerful throwback one that carries us back to early childhood memories, those simple yet magical experiences that quietly shaped the people we are today.
World Children’s Day is celebrated every year on November 20 to promote global unity and raise awareness about children’s rights and welfare. It is a day dedicated to advocating, promoting, and celebrating children’s rights, turning reflection into dialogue and action aimed at building a better world for all children.
If you close your eyes for a moment, you may find yourself transported back to days when happiness was found in the smallest of things. Perhaps it was the excitement of running outside after school to play with friends, the sound of laughter echoing across the neighbourhood as you chased each other around dusty fields or tree-lined streets.
These fragments of our early years are more than memories they are reminders of seasons filled with purity, curiosity, and unfiltered joy. Children’s Day is a celebration of those moments. It encourages us not just to appreciate children, but to honour the value of childhood itself.
For many, the first years of life were marked by love and care from the grown-ups around them—the teachers who kept faith in us when we were timid and doubtful, the parents who worked tirelessly and rejoiced at every milestone, and the brothers, sisters, and friends who were partners in our mischief, turning ordinary days into lasting memories.
But Children’s Day is not only about nostalgia; it is also a call to action. Reflecting on our childhood should prompt a question: what memories will today’s children carry into their future? Will they recall a life where their dreams were safeguarded and there was space to grow? Or will their memories be filled with pressure, anxiety, and uncertainty? The answer depends on the decisions we make today.
This year’s theme, “My Day, My Rights,” reminds us of the urgent responsibility we share. Kenya’s First Lady Rachel Ruto has affirmed the national commitment to creating a nurturing environment where children’s rights are recognised, protected, and fulfilled. “Today, we celebrate every child’s right to belong, to learn, and to be heard. Through the Voice of Children initiative, we are championing child provision, child protection, and child participation. Every child matters. Every voice counts,” she noted.

Globally, this message is echoed by the United Nations. UN Secretary-General António Guterres has urged the world to amplify children’s voices and stand up for their rights. “Every child’s circumstances are unique. But every child has the same rights, no matter who they are or where they live. This World Children’s Day, let us listen to children and amplify their voices as they stand up for their rights. We must unite to build a safe and equal world for every child,” he said.

So as we share our childhood moments those faded photographs, the stories of village games, school trips, family traditions, or the first toy we longed for we must also commit to building a better world for the children of today. A world where every child feels loved, safe, heard, and free to be themselves. A world where their potential is celebrated, not limited.
This Children’s Day, let your throwback be more than memory. Let it be a reminder of joy, simplicity, and hope—the essence of childhood—and a motivation to ensure that every child, everywhere, has the chance to create beautiful memories of their own.
