On April 22, 2025, 124 students sponsored by Compassion International graduated with certificates from Kabarak University’s TVET Institute. Compassion is a Christ-centered, child-focused, church-driven organization dedicated to serving children and youth living in poverty.
The graduates, who had studied for a three month period, emerged from technical fields such as Arc Welding, Electrical Engineering, and Information Communication Technology.
Courses at the Kabarak University TVET Institute not only enhance technical skills but also cultivate soft skills like communication, teamwork, professionalism, customer service, time management, and problem-solving.

Richard Meli, the Rift Valley Region Coordinator for the Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE), attended the TVET graduation event and urged students to pursue these hands-on courses, emphasizing their importance in the job market. “As the market evolves, there is a growing need for individuals who possess practical skills,” he stated.
Learning short courses at Kabarak University is accessible to all, aiming to fill knowledge gaps and enhance employability. The university offers a wide variety of courses across different fields to help students achieve their milestones.
In the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, short courses can be completed in as little as five days. For example, the Phlebotomy course targets Medical Laboratory Technicians, Technologists, Scientists, Medical Officers, Clinical Officers, and Nurses. Other courses, such as Laboratory Quality Management Systems, Biosafety and Biosecurity, and Laboratory Data Management and Analysis, also cater to healthcare professionals.
Additionally, the Malaria Microscopy course and Molecular Techniques in Laboratory Medicine each take five days to complete, providing essential skills for Medical Laboratory Technicians and Biomedical Scientists. Importantly, students can pursue these short courses concurrently with other university studies.
The School of Music and Media at Kabarak University also offers a range of short courses, including Music Theory and Songwriting, Introduction to Music Production, Church Music, DJ Skills, Contemporary Dance Classes, and Live Sound and Streaming Essentials for Churches.
