- Kenya has already seen benefits from PPPs, evident in projects like the Nairobi-Mombasa Expressway and the Lake Turkana Wind Power Project.
Government and Policy Expert Joshua Nyamori has urged the nation to back the President in his pursuit of beneficial deals. Speaking on the DayBreak show on Citizen TV on April 24, 2025, Nyamori has stated that President William Ruto is making the right move by engaging with China.
President Ruto is currently in China for a four-day State Visit at the invitation of President Xi Jinping. Nyamori has emphasized that the country should look beyond local politics and view Ruto’s visit as an opportunity to address pressing issues facing Kenya.
“The President is in China not for the interests of China or the U.S. We need to rise above politics because this is a crucial national economic issue,” he said.
Nyamori has highlighted the country’s debt situation, suggesting that the President’s outreach to foreign nations may provide solutions. “We are burdened by debt and cannot continue taking loans. The President has been strategic and tactical, focusing on the issue of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs),” he added.

Nyamori explained, “There are several advantages to pursuing PPPs. They are cheaper than loans, where interest must be paid. Additionally, risks are shared; if a project fails, both parties lose. This approach also enhances service delivery, improving areas where tax revenues fall short. Furthermore, it accelerates project completion.”
He continued, “If China’s interest lies in business with Africa, we should pursue that path. America has shown a lack of interest in our needs. Let’s focus on collaborating with any partners who can help us achieve our objectives. I believe we need to support the President in this direction.”
