Kenya is exploring ways to enhance the welfare of Kenyans abroad. On April 4, 2025, the Principal Secretary (PS) for Diaspora Affairs Roseline met with Dr. Joachim Stamp, Germany’s Special Commissioner for Migration Agreements, to discuss matters of mutual interest between Kenya and Germany, including labor mobility.

The meeting focused on the implementation phase of the comprehensive migration and mobility partnership agreement signed between the two nations.

According to Kenya’s State Department for Diaspora Affairs, the agreement has already facilitated over 380 confirmed job placements for Kenyans in Germany, marking the beginning of a robust labor exchange.

“The Kenyan government, through the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, remains committed to promoting safe, structured, and mutually beneficial migration policies,” the State Department stated.

In 2024, Kenya and Germany signed a labor migration agreement aimed at creating a system for skilled workers to move between the countries while protecting Kenyan workers’ rights. The agreement also seeks to ensure safe, orderly, and productive migration.

This agreement addresses Germany’s labor shortages while significantly increasing access to decent foreign jobs for Kenyan workers in Germany. Additionally, it contributes to the socio-economic development of Kenyan workers through remittances and skill transfers.

Similarly, the Prime Cabinet Secretary and CS, Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi, has emphasized the importance of the Kenya Foreign Policy document as a foundational framework for enhancing the country’s diplomatic and international engagements.

He noted that the policy strengthens Kenya’s ability to implement actions that protect and promote the interests and welfare of Kenyans in the diaspora.

"Kenya’s Foreign Policy is evolving to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing global landscape. Sessional Paper No. 1 of 2025 outlines a strategic approach to enhance our diplomatic efforts by optimizing the use of Kenya’s assets abroad, securing better terms for foreign service staff, and adopting a professional recruitment process," he said.
