• Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti welcomed President Ruto’s visit to the Lower Eastern Region, particularly Machakos County, and presented a list of unmet pledges critical to the people’s welfare. These included the construction of Mavoko Level 4 Hospital, a water intake project in Masinga Constituency, compensation for families affected by Portland land demolitions, a review of high land values, and funding for the construction of Mavoko Stadium in Athi River Sub-county.

Machakos County is undergoing a major transformation, driven by a series of development projects aimed at improving the lives of its residents. During his tour of the Ukambani region, which began on November 12, 2025, President William Ruto announced that the government has committed KSh25 billion towards affordable housing, modern markets, and student hostels across Machakos.

In the 2025/2026 financial year, an additional KSh3 billion has been allocated to upgrade 360 kilometers of roads, a move expected to boost trade and open new economic opportunities.

To further enhance living conditions, 10,000 homes are being connected to electricity at a cost of KSh1.4 billion, with the President emphasizing that access to power should no longer be a privilege for a few. The government has also set aside KSh700 million to compensate residents affected by the Miwongoni Dam project, which aims to address water shortages in Machakos town.

On November 14, President Ruto addressed residents in Machakos town, sharing the county’s development scorecard and future vision. He handed over keys to new homeowners under Phase 1 of the Machakos Town Affordable Housing Programme, which delivered 220 units at a cost of KSh541 million.

“We have committed KSh25 billion towards affordable housing, modern markets, and student hostels across Machakos,” the President said.

According to him, Phase 2 of the project has officially begun, with a KSh1.6 billion investment set to deliver 570 additional housing units. The President has also highlighted progress on the Mutituni Modern Market, a KSh52 million facility that will benefit 200 traders. Due to high demand, an additional KSh50 million has been approved to expand the market’s capacity to 600 traders, supporting local enterprise and small-scale traders, including mama mboga.

“These projects underscore our firm commitment to ensuring that every Kenyan has access to decent, affordable housing, a key pillar of our national agenda to uplift communities and build a more equitable and prosperous nation,” he added.
