• Nakuru activists have expressed dissatisfaction with leadership in the county and country, despite President Ruto's July cabinet reshuffle.
  • They cite ongoing corruption and threats against their advocacy efforts.

Activists in Nakuru County have voiced dissatisfaction with the county and national leadership despite recent cabinet changes. The activists claim they have yet to see any significant improvements even after President Ruto dissolved the previous cabinet in July and formed a new one.

Two months after the historic Gen Z protests erupted across the country, leading to the dissolution of the cabinet, they say they are still disappointed with the new leadership. Simon Ole Nasieku, one of the activists, expresses concern over the persistent issue of corruption, claiming that despite the reshuffle, corruption within various ministries remains rampant.

"I had high expectations that the country would be better after the Gen Z protests, but now I am very devastated that corruption is too rampant in every sector. Here in Nakuru, leaders are planning to impose excessively high land rates, which is very unfair," said Ole Nasieku.

Another activist, Laban Omusundi, reveales that their advocacy for justice and good governance has been met with threats aimed at silencing their efforts. Omusundi claims that no actions have been taken by authorities to address their concerns or protect them from intimidation.

"We are always threatened shortly after highlighting a controversial issue in the government," said Omusundi.

The activists continue to call for accountability, urging both the county and national governments to prioritize transparency and decisive action against corruption. They also demand protection for those advocating for justice and better governance, hoping their calls will not fall on deaf ears as the nation awaits real change.

As dissatisfaction grows, Nakuru’s activists remain committed to their cause, insisting that without substantial reforms and an end to intimidation, the goals of good leadership and governance will remain unattainable for the citizens of Nakuru County and the country at large.
