This is so unfortunate. However, it’s not just an accident. Someone is behind all this fires, someone is behind it. Hii ni tabia mbaya aaahh!!

Mutindwa Market situated in Eastlands within Buru buru estate Outer- ring road in Nairobi separating it with Umoja Estate has been reported to burn down early this June 14, 2023 at 2am. The fire which no one knows its initiators has caught traders by surprise.

Just like Toi Market which got burnt down three days ago with the cause unknown, Mutindwa is popular for second hand, thrifty home goods, clothes or shoes and fresh fruit and vegetables.

Traders are still counting losses as large sum of goods worth millions burnt down at the market. In the heart of the fire is a land tussle with forty-three people claiming ownership of the market land.

Nairobi women representative Esther Passaris on her official twitter account has come out to lament on the fires asking the Governor Johnson Sakaja, DCI Kenya and the trade Cabinet Secretary Hon.Moses Kuria and the Inspector General of Police to act faster on the same by empowering traders on disaster preparedness and management.

“Mutindwa market Buru Buru; we have barely dealt with Toi Market and now this? @DCI_Kenya @IG_NPS it’s time to crack the whip on arsonists. @SakajaJohnson let’s empower market leaders and traders on disaster preparedness. @HonMoses_Kuria how can we help get our traders back on their feet?”

The incident has caught different reactions from Kenyans on twitter condemning the attack and deeming it uncouth and ill-mannered to the hustlers struggling to make ends meet.

@Michael_ouma

Toi and Mutindwa have never burnt, and for it to happen within a space of a week points to orchestrated arson by powers that be. It’s everyone guess who those may be. Really unfortunate happenings, to people just trying to make an honest living.

@wuodseline

Talk directly to land grabbers. Arsonists kitu gani.

@d_mandere

sasa wanarudi kwa city pavements. moi avenue ndo kuna space kiasi. Yes lazima tuhustle. @SakajaJohnson please wasinishike leo.

Kenyans are asking the government to directly speak to the land grabbers and sort out the land issue for smooth trade in the said markets.
