Dr. Isaac Andabwa, Secretary-General of the Kenya National Private Security Workers Union, has emphasized the crucial role played by private security guards in complementing national security agents during a live session on Radio Taifa.

Dr. Andabwa has called for a shift in perception and urged the public to no longer refer to them as "watchmen," emphasizing that they deserve respect and recognition for their contributions.

During the radio interview, Dr. Andabwa highlighted the historical context behind the term "watchman," stating that it originated during the colonial era and carries negative connotations in Kenya.

He emphasized that over the past sixty-one years since Kenya gained independence, the country has evolved significantly, and it is time to move away from using this outdated term.

Furthermore, Dr. Andabwa explained the vital role played by private security guards in safeguarding the nation. He stated that approximately 80 percent of security operations in the country are entrusted to private security officers.

Their responsibilities encompass a wide range of duties and responsibilities that complement those of national security agents.

“I want to talk about the roles of private security guards. Those are private security officers. Eighty percent of the security in the state is provided by private guards. Our role is to complement the national security agents. Private guards are very important people," he said.

Dr. Andabwa emphasized the importance of recognizing the contributions made by private security guards, highlighting their role in enhancing public safety and protecting the welfare of individuals, businesses, and communities.

He called upon the public to acknowledge their significance and afford them the respect they deserve.
