• It was speculated that the bull might have been provoked by the smell of the local brew that Amukune had.
  • The police said they had received information that there was foul play involved in the death of Amukune and that they needed to conduct more tests and interviews.

A tragic and bizarre incident occurred on Sunday, January 28, 2024, when a bull owned by Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale attacked and killed its caretaker, Kizito Moi Amukune, who had worked for the senator for over 20 years.

The bull, named Inasio, was the reigning champion of Ikolomani, a region known for its bullfighting sport, and had won several contests for Khalwale, who is also a fan of the sport.

According to Khalwale, the bull gored Amukune while he was tying it in the barn, and he must have died from losing a lot of blood.

It was also speculated that the bull might have been provoked by the smell of the local brew that Amukune had consumed, as the bull loved molasses, which had a similar scent.

The body of Amukune was found in the bull's stable the following morning and taken to Kakamega County Referral Hospital, where a postmortem examination was conducted.

The family of Amukune wanted to bury the body today, but the police stopped the process and ordered a second investigation, following claims of murder and not the bull.

The police said they had received information that there was foul play involved in the death of Amukune and that they needed to conduct more tests and interviews.

Meanwhile, the bull was killed as per the Luhya traditions, which dictate that a bull that kills someone must be put to death immediately.

Khalwale was heard chanting Luhya incantations before spearing his champion bull, and the villagers then sliced it alive and carried the meat to their homes.

The killing of the bull sparked outrage on social media, as some people condemned the act as cruel and barbaric, while others defended it as a cultural practice and a necessary measure.

Some also questioned the validity of the murder claims and wondered if they were politically motivated to tarnish Khalwale's reputation.

It's traditional that when a cow kills a person it is killed ruthless by cutting it while still alive to feel the pain.
