Three Dead, Others Injured as Vehicle Crashes and Erupts in Flames Along Ngong Road

Three people have died while others sustained injuries after a vehicle crashed and erupts into flames at Kenol Stage, near Raila Odinga International Stadium along Ngong Road in Nairobi, on Thursday morning, October 29.

Reports indicate that the accident occurred at approximately 7:25 a.m. when a blue saloon car, reportedly travelling at high speed from the Ngong direction, lost control.

According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle first rammed into the pavement before veering off the road and hitting a woman who was waiting for a matatu. The woman reportedly died on the spot, while two other victims sustained injuries and were rushed to hospital for treatment.

Witnesses further alleged that police officers recovered two bottles of alcohol from the wreckage, raising suspicions that the driver may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. However, these allegations have not been independently verified.

In the aftermath of the crash, boda boda riders reportedly set the wreckage ablaze, claiming that they intended to ward off bad omens associated with the fatal incident.

The accident has once again raised concerns over road safety and the growing number of road crashes across the country, despite intensified efforts by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to crack down on reckless driving and ensure vehicles operating on major roads and highways meet the required safety standards.
