The journalist Yvonne OKWARA on Tuesday 27 October bids farewell to the Royal Media Services, Citizen Tv to be specific after 20 years in the Media house during the Explainer, her last live broadcast.

Yvonne Okwara has officially bid farewell to Citizen TV, closing a highly impactful eight-and-a-half-year stint at the Royal Media Services (RMS) station and wrapping up a distinguished 20-year career in mainstream broadcast journalism.

She announced her departure live on air on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, during her final broadcast of The Explainer. Following her departure from television, she is transitioning to a corporate leadership role as the Head of Investments and Partnerships at Shuga Global, a UK-based organization.

During her emotional final broadcast, Okwara thanked her viewers, mentors, and the News Gang team. She left Kenyan journalists and citizens with a powerful parting message to "keep asking the right questions, keep demanding better, and keep holding power to account".

On Wednesday, 28 October 2026, the Citizen TV newsroom organized a celebratory send-off. Managing Editor Pamela Asigi and fellow journalists praised her unique combination of a sharp political and business mind, describing her as the yardstick for outstanding journalism in Kenya.

Over her two decades in the media, Okwara built a formidable reputation at KBC, Hot 96, QFM, and KTN News before joining Citizen TV in 2018. Beyond anchoring major prime-time bulletins like Tonight and News Gang, she famously moderated Kenya's presidential debates and interviewed global figures like Melinda French Gates.
